TODDLER PROGRAM

Age: 2-3

Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Students/class: 10

Teacher/student ratio: 1-5

The children at Elmhurst Montessori Preschool begin their education in the toddler program when they are two-years-old. This three-hour program is offered in the mornings and children can attend three or more days a week.

The children are welcomed into the classroom each day by caring Montessori teachers. In a Montessori classroom, the children are able to freely move about the room and they can select any activity that interests them. The Montessori classroom is meticulously organized with the young child in mind.

The activities accessible to the toddler children are: language, math, manipulative materials, blocks, imaginative play, painting, scrubbing, art works, and texture and sound materials. The teachers will work with children individually or in small groups. The children will come together as a large group mid-morning to work on gross motor skills, listen to music or play a game. The children will have a snack together. At the end of the morning, the children will prepare for dismissal and have story time.

For the children wearing diapers, they will be changed when necessary and children who are toilet training will be helped to use the toilet.
